Free $25 Worth of Organic Groceries

January 31, 2010

I am always looking for ways to make my life easier. We currently buy groceries at Whole Foods, Co-Opportunity, Trader Joes, Yummy.com, various farmers markets and a food truck that comes to our door. If I can somehow consolidate these trips, plus get free groceries for trying, why not? http://www.spud.com is having a New Years special. They are offer $25 free groceries if you order $50 or more, plus free delivery until February 5th for new customers.

I found out about this deal through http://www.greatperks.com. I’ve been a member of Great Perks for over a year and they email me weekly great perks they have arranged at various spas, restaurants, attractions, etc. There is no fee to be a member.

Spud.com is tooted (by themselves) as a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joes. They are said to offer quality named goods with prices more in line with Trader Joes’. Their website is easy to navigate with a link devoted to their weekly specials.

I found some prices to be higher than both Whole Foods and Trader Joes. For example – their prices on ak-mak crackers are over $2 whereas at Whole Foods and Trader Joes, they are under $1.30. Some of their prices are on par, though I didn’t find any of their prices cheaper than Trader Joes.

They do let you know how far their groceries had to travel so if you are concerned about your carbon footprint, you can be reassured by buying groceries closer to home. (There is also a very small surcharge for making a carbon imprint that is applied to your order and a deposit fee of $3.50 for their container, which will be reimbursed once it is returned. You can arrange for them to pick up the container if you choose not to order from there again.) They also have some delicious sounding healthy recipes on their site.

Their prepared foods section is lacking since it devoted mostly to Amy’s frozen foods and soups. They also offer two different boxes of produce, although I think I am still going to stick with the farmer’s markets for our produce.

We have arranged for our first delivery on Tuesday. For me, this deal gives me the financial freedom to try new things without worrying if Mishy will like it or not.

Here is the deal:
